i'm in lima now, for a second time on this trip. the first time wasn't particularly fun as it consisted of me either feeling ill or working. or both. as a result i spent a lot of time looking at my computer screen instead of looking at peru. it was getting a bit too much so i spent the last few days down the coast, and i'm now back looking at my computer screen. i'm intending this computer session to be a lot shorter so i can soon head up the coast. this is a photo i took from the first time around, one of the few occasions when i went out exploring. i realised as i was taking it that it had been over 9 months since i had seen the ocean. 9 months - that's fairly impressive in south america. i last saw the pacific when i was on the chiliean island of chiloe
in january, and the atlantic a few days later in las grutas
in argentina. since then i travelled inland in both of those countries, as well as spending a considerable amount of time in land-locked paraguay
. it's good to be back in a country that has beaches - although the beaches in lima seem to consist of pebbles, tarmac and cars. can't wait to close my laptop and start heading up the coast.
