and all you folks, you come to see, you just stand there in the glass looking at me, but my heart is wild, and my bones are steam, and i could kill you with my bare hands if i was free
i don’t generally post a themed photo for halloween, except for a ghost a couple of years and pumpkin when i was one month old, however i happened to be going through my ecuador photos the other day and this scary face jumped out at me. i met him when i was in misahualli in the amazon at an animal rehabilitation centre called amazoonico. it was a fairly similar place to la senda verde where i volunteered (and took lots of photos) in bolivia, with a selection of different monkeys, birds and cats. it's a shame to see animals like this one locked in a cage, particularly when you can tell that they're not happy, however i know from experience that it will be for very good reason and the safety of the animal is paramount. whilst it's almost always humans who are responsible for the maltreatment which makes a cage the only safe option, at least there are some good humans who run refuges and try to make things a little better.
