when i accelerate i remember why it's good to be alive, like a 25 cent game
a few weeks ago i borrowed my sisters car and drove to yorkshire and back. the journey up was fairly slow and boring, so i put some music on, drank a can of red bull and took some pictures. the journey home was far less boring, or at least it became that way when the rain started falling and my windscreen wipers stopped working. that happened somewhere near nottingham when i had around 100 miles remaining to drive. my first tactic was to focus my eyes past the spots of water on the glass and onto the road in front. it worked for a while, however as the rain became heavier the spots of water grew so i switched to moving my head around to look for the waterless gaps. i slowed down and tried to drive with the largest possible gap to the vehicle in front. the consequence of this meant that whenever a lorry or other large vehicle overtook me the tyre spray covered so much of the windscreen that my vision resembled a monet painting. if you looked at a monet painting whilst squirting water in your eyes. i told myself it would be ok as long as i made it down the motorway, for some reason not considering that the end of my journey would involve navigating through the busiest city in europe. i suppose i just hoped that the rain would eventually stop, or i'd find a garage who could fix the static wipers. neither of these things happened so pedestrians, junctions and road signs were soon thrown into the mix. the final 10 miles through central london were a figurative and literal blur.
