just as we were leaving tignes the x games were starting. this is basically a competition for skiers and snowboarders where they perform tricks on a halfpipe as well as big ass jumps and rails. it was the first ever time it was hosted outside of america, and while it would have been cool to see all of it, we did manage to overlap and see one day. i think i actually took this the day before that, when a bunch of skiers were practicing. there was a route with about five or six jumps, some with pretty long rails, some (like this) with a gap between the take-off and landing, all fucking massive. the skiers would bomb down, get massive air, land like it was the easiest thing in the world, ride to the bottom and then get a personal skidoo back to the top. and then repeat that again and again. the route was just to the side of a blue run, and there must have been about a hundred people sitting on a slope on the edge of the piste, each with their jaws to the floor.

as i think you can tell, this is a combination of a few photos that i took in about a five minute period, here's one of the originals
