a couple of days ago i went to my first proper gig in over half a year since i've been travelling. the deftones of all people were playing in asuncion of all places. pretty random but i didn't hesitate to get tickets. i've seen them once before, quite a few years ago, although i don't have particularly fond memories of that gig. i had to buy two overpriced tickets from a tout outside after mine were nicked somewhere between kings cross and wembley. in that gig they were supported by a perfect circle, whose lead singer did guest vocals on my favourite deftones song: passenger. i was convinced that they'd team up and knock out a version, but they didn't. despite arriving quite a few hours late i still enjoyed them this time around. it was fairly surreal being surrounded by paraguayan fans singing along in english. my late arrival had the unintended consequence that i recognised almost every song which the band subsequently played - and i finally got me my rendition of passenger as well. good start to a good night.
