i think it was about a year ago now that a mate recommended that i watch a show called the wire. i thought it started off at a slow pace, and found it pretty difficult to understand but i persevered and just finished the final episode of the the final season a few months ago. it's hard to describe without sounding like i'm exaggerating but it really is a masterpiece. it's so different to anything i've ever seen on tv, it's really hard to find any faults with it at all. the structure, the writing, the acting - it's all just... perfect. it really puts other tv shows into perspective - almost everything else just looks shite in comparison. for example i started watching the second series of heroes soon afterwards and i really disliked it because it was just so cheap, and hammy and empty. i mean you just cannot compare the complexity of a character like peter petrelli to that of bubbles. i'm not sure about saying it's the best tv show ever made (as many have said) as i think that's like naming your best song, it just can't be done. but it's up there at the top. anyways this shot, or at least the processing for this shot, was kind of inspired by the wire season 2. if frank sobotka had worked on the pier in the isle of bute instead of west baltimore.

here's the original
