before i get eaten alive
this was what i thought was the last bit of the mountain bike trail when i was up in
grizedale forest. it wasn't, there was still about 90 minutes to go. but i didn't know that at the time so i could relax and look at the vista, right? wrong. and there's one reason why... midges. man they're little fuckers aren't they? there was quite literally a gazillion of them, and as soon as i stopped they just descended upon me like tiny magnets. it felt as if there was more on my face than there was at any other part of the forest, and it's making me itch just thinking about it. on the plus side it worked as an encouragement to keep on moving... on the down side it meant that i was uncomfortable (from either the pedalling or biting) for pretty much the whole journey.
