coney island
when i knew i was going to new york for a few days, i started to make a list of all the places that i wanted to visit. along with the usual suspects - times square, empire state building, central park - was here, coney island. i think part of the reason was because it's featured in
one of my favourite film(s) -
requiem for a dream - but also because it seemed to have a weird retro vibe that i thought would be interesting. it used to be a popular tourist destination for locals, with it's beach and fairground rides, however it has since become fairly run down so has a different atmosphere altogether. at least that's what i'd heard about it - unfortunately my timing was all off and i picked either the wrong time of the day, or year, or both, to visit and everything was closed up. i still enjoyed walking around, but i'd like to go back when more lights are on.
